Hi my name is Mattheus, and I am the owner and Operator of Drone Bee Videos “DBV”.  I have been flying drones for about four years. And throughout the last few years I have upgraded drones. I am 17 years old, but don’t let that scare you, I have spent a lot of time flying Drones to perfect my skill levels. I currently have a DJI Mavic three classic, with a 5.1K Video Quality. I also have the Mavic 3 Enterprise Thermal, which has the thermal/infrared camera specifically for search & rescue. I am currently part of the Monteagle TN Fire Department as Search and Rescue Drone Team. And we’ll be upgrading to the DJI Matrice 350 soon. I also work for realtors taking drone videos of properties, as well as roof inspections for Home Inspectors, and large construction projects, search and rescue, and as soon as I have the Matrice 350 rte High-quality thermal and night vision, my search and rescue quality will improve. I will also be doing eyes in the sky for firefighters.

  • It was a brisk Sunday night at 9:06 PM when the call came through, thrusting me into the heart of a search and rescue mission that would redefine the capabilities of my thermal drone. Dispatch urgently inquired about my drone's thermal features, and with a resounding "yes," the race against time began.
  • Swiftly connecting with the incident commander, I gathered my DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise Thermal, chargers, and equipment, driven by a sense of purpose. By 9:43 PM, My drone team and I was on-site, navigating the complexities of a mountainside cloaked in darkness.
  • Upon arrival, I was handed coordinates leading to the lost hunter's four-wheeler, situated in perfect running condition, yet devoid of its owner. The chilling night air, approximately 48 degrees, heightened the urgency of the situation.
  • Launching my drone into the night, the thermal imaging quickly became my guiding light. Within a mere 30 minutes, the lost man, a 30-year-old hunter, was seen by my drone under the sheltering branches of the trees on the mountainside. The coordinates were swiftly relayed to the ground crew, who ventured nearly a mile away, guided by the digital breadcrumbs my drone provided.
  • As I landed the drone to swap batteries, the unforeseen happened. The lost person, initially detected and assumed to be stationary, had stirred. Fearful of the unfamiliar drone, he had gotten up and moved, evading our electronic gaze. The situation took an unexpected turn as we, the rescuers, misunderstood him as one of our own searchers.
  • An hour of confusion ensued, but in a remarkable twist, the lost person, on his own accord, walked into our camp, undeterred by the challenging terrain. Meanwhile, his four-wheeler stood witness to the unfolding events, a silent companion in the mysteries of the night.
  • The incident served as a testament to the power of technology and the unpredictable nature of search and rescue missions. The DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise Thermal, paired with over 100 hours of flight experience, had played a pivotal role in locating the lost hunter, even as the unfolding events added a layer of complexity to the narrative.
  • In the quiet aftermath of rescuing the lost hunter, a profound realization dawned—I had spent a year trying to launch my search and rescue business, facing countless challenges. However, this singular search, with its unexpected twists, became the breakthrough moment.
